The Instruments

Named on the scope, not in a brochure.

Accreditation covers a method only when the equipment that performs it has been assessed too. Every instrument here appears on the scope document against the methods it serves.

Quality System

What ISO/IEC 17025 asks of a laboratory.

  1. Technical competence

Accreditation is granted after assessment, not after application. Assessors examine the methods, the equipment and the people running them, and return on a fixed cycle to examine them again.

  2. Impartiality & confidentiality

The standard requires that testing is free of commercial pressure and that a client's results stay theirs. Both are conditions of holding the accreditation, not policies we set for ourselves.

  3. Traceability & uncertainty

Measurements are traceable to national and international references through calibrated equipment, and reported with the measurement uncertainty that belongs to them. A number without its uncertainty is not a result.

  4. Documented methods

Each accredited test runs to a controlled written procedure — the procedure references that appear on the scope document — so the same product tested twice is tested the same way twice.

Why It Matters

What an accredited report is worth.

  1. Compliance

Results are referenced to the standards that regulators, specifiers and tender documents actually name — IEC 60598-1, IEC 60529, ANSI/IES LM-79 — so a report answers the question that was asked of it.

  2. Product quality

An enclosure that lets water in, a driver running outside tolerance, a coating lifting at the cross-cut — cheap to find on the bench, expensive to find in the field. Testing moves the discovery earlier.

  3. Market confidence

ANAB is a signatory to the ILAC Mutual Recognition Arrangement, under which accredited reports are recognised by signatories worldwide. Tested once in Suez, read wherever the product ships.
